Summer Camp in Abu Dhabi

What you can expect at the Maktaba Summer Camp that the Department of Culture and Tourism has launched.

At summer camp kids sing, dance, story tell, build and make memories. Considering how Covid-19 has put a bender on a few plans, this year DCT Abu Dhabi has come to the rescue. That’s right, the kids still get to enjoy camp!

They have launched a virtual camp for both young adults and kids alike under the theme ‘Readers in the Jungle’ with a focus on animals. The programme will have a number of online workshops that include reading sessions, meeting favourite authors, a summer reading challenge and a magazine making competition.

Executive Director of DCT Abu Dhabi’s Dar Al Kutub sector, HE Abdulla Majed Al Ali, said: “Over the past few months, children and young adults have particularly suffered due to the isolation and restrictions imposed by worldwide pandemic.

It’s a pleasure for us to be able to ease this by bringing some fun back into learning, which is exactly what our MAKTABA Summer Camp has always been about. That we are now able to roll out this programme in the virtual space is an exciting development and we at DCT Abu Dhabi are eagerly looking forward to seeing youngsters and participants of all ages getting involved, as there really is something for everyone.”

The camp started on 01st July has workshops and activities ranging from drawing and writing to photography and entrepreneurship to cater to kids and young adults alike. The programme will unfold over a series of interactive online sessions with engaging call to actions.

This is definitely a step away from our conventional camp in the sun but nonetheless sounds exciting and new! Moreover, the camp also requires everyone between 6-16 years taking part to finish 30 books during the camp duration of one month. Yes, the perfect reason to get over that reading hump.
