If you’ve seen the new trailer of an exciting action film starring Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, you might have noticed a few familiar sights along the scenes.

That’s because 6 Underground – the film directed by award-winning director Michael Bay – has been partly shot in Abu Dhabi and neighboring Emirates.

It was November last year when it was reported that Reynolds and a film crew were in the UAE for a shoot.

The 30-day shoot saw the actor, Bay and the team visit spots in Abu Dhabi, Liwa desert, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Working closely with Netflix and Skydance Media is twofour54, the Abu Dhabi-based media and entertainment hub.

Part of twofour54’s task is to take care of logistics and ensuring the smooth flow of filming from start to finish.

“We are delighted to see Abu Dhabi yet again featuring so prominently in a major international production,” said H.E. Maryam Eid AlMheiri, vice-chair of twofour54.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Netflix back to our Emirate and to support such a smooth and seamless shoot.”

This is not of course the first time that Abu Dhabi was chosen to be the setting of an international movie.

Films such as War Machine and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, among others, also shot scenes featuring spots here in the capital.

International film studios are eligible to 30 per cent cash rebate on production and post-production spend courtesy of Abu Dhabi Film Commission.

Of course, the many scenic and interesting locations around the capital provides many backdrop options for directors to choose from.

6 Underground is schedule to be released on 13th December.

Haven’t planned your NYE agenda, buy your tickets to Bruno Mars and welcome the new year in style.
