Pioneering Solutions for Climate and Nature at COP28

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Emirates Nature-WWF are thrilled to announce the launch of the second edition of the Ambassadors for Nature Programme.

This timely youth-oriented program coincides with the upcoming COP28 climate conference in Dubai. It presents a golden opportunity for the UAE’s young leaders to make their mark on the global stage.

Open to individuals aged 18 to 35, the nationwide search aims to identify and nurture youth changemakers who possess a deep passion for nature.

As COP28 approaches, the selected Ambassadors for Nature will be empowered with valuable skills and knowledge to drive innovative solutions for climate and nature issues.

Part of the COP28 Youth Climate and Nature Series, the Ambassadors for Nature initiative aspires to create a lasting legacy beyond the conference. By engaging the wider community, it seeks to raise awareness and involvement in impactful conservation efforts.

Developed collaboratively by EAD and Emirates Nature-WWF, the program’s launch on World Environment Day garnered immense enthusiasm. Creative initiatives like a mangrove-themed escape room engaged participants and ignited action for nature.

To equip young leaders for their roles as advocates and changemakers, EAD and Emirates Nature-WWF have curated a series of comprehensive e-learning modules and training sessions.

Ambassadors for Nature

Renowned environmental experts will delve into critical topics such as climate change and nature loss, supplemented by insights from ‘Youth Insiders’ actively driving green solutions in the UAE.

Beyond theoretical knowledge, the program offers immersive experiences in nature conservation. Participants will join expert-led field trips, including mangrove sapling planting to restore coastal wetlands and a captivating Nature at Night expedition, contributing to citizen science efforts to monitor the UAE’s diverse wildlife.

All training sessions and field trips, accessible through the user-friendly Connect with Nature app, are entirely complimentary. Taking place throughout August, and September 2023, participation in these activities is not obligatory for applying to become an Ambassador for Nature. Applicants can showcase their commitment to nature through alternative means within the application process.

Successful applicants chosen as Ambassadors for Nature in 2023 will join an exclusive cohort of young UAE leaders. Equipped with advanced training, mentorship, and additional resources, these ambassadors will drive impactful change and ensure that the youth voice resonates with regional and global stakeholders.

To seize this esteemed and voluntary role, interested candidates must fulfill the following criteria by the end of October 2023:

  • UAE citizenship or residency
  • Ages 18-35 at the time of application
  • Demonstrated engagement with nature
  • A score of 75% or higher on an online assessment quiz
  • Submission of a concise 1-minute video outlining their aspirations in the role and strategies to inspire their communities to take action for nature.
