Eid al-Fitr Dates Have Now Been Revealed

Eid al-Fitr

It would seem that we will soon be enjoying a long weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Public sector employees in Abu Dhabi are set for a long weekend after Eid al-Fitr holidays were announced by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

The announcement was made through state news agency WAM and said that the Eid holiday will start on Friday 22nd May (which is Ramadan 29) and will run until Shawwal 3 in the Islamic calendar.

Eid will last until Tuesday 26th May or Wednesday 27th May , depending on whether Ramadan is 29 or 30 days this year.

The exact dates will be confirmed nearer to the time by the moon-sighting committee.

Although the announcement is for public sector workers only, the UAE public and private sector holidays now run in tandem.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims.
