Mark your calendars for the highly anticipated 19th edition of the Liwa Date Festival, set to take place from July 17th to 30th, 2023, in Liwa, Al Dhafra Region. Organized by the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Club, this remarkable event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court.
The announcement of the festival’s newest edition was made during a press conference at the prestigious Mohammed Khalaf Council in Abu Dhabi.
Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Director of the Committee’s Planning and Projects Department, highlighted that the Liwa Date Festival is an annual gathering that brings together producers, businesses, and investors in the date palm industry. It serves as a platform for showcasing Emirati heritage, supporting local products, promoting agricultural awareness, and highlighting the UAE’s commitment to sustainable food practices and community engagement in national sustainability strategies.
Aligned with the Year of Sustainability, this year’s festival will feature a remarkable lineup of nearly 23 main competitions, offering 293 prizes totaling AED 8.3 million.
Alongside these competitions, attendees can enjoy engaging activities such as date auctions, fruit displays, model farms, palm fronds exhibitions, and traditional showcases, with prizes awarded in 22 different categories.
Moreover, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and heritage of the UAE through a vibrant marketplace, national pavilions, council sections, and craft corners. The market will house 165 shops and pavilions, showcasing products by productive families and national institutions. Additionally, food carts and mobile cafes will offer delectable treats, ensuring a delightful culinary experience.
