UAE extends its travel ban to India and 14 other countries

Etihad Airways Travel Ban extended
Suspension until 21st July

In the wake of Delta-plus Covid-19 variant, UAE further extended travel ban from India & 14 other countries including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal & South Africa. Flights to remain suspended till July 21st to ensure the spread of the latest Coronavirus variant.

With India hitting 48 such positive cases across 11 states, authorities declared it is too early to tell all about the strain that drove the nation’s devastating second wave of the virus. Swamping health system & overwhelming crematoriums are not a good sign!

On other hand, the ban is only extended for travels by flight to UAE. It doesn not include cargo, chartered flights & special flights. The ban on passenger flights was scheduled to be lifted on July 6, but a spike in new cases across India has prompted the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to reconsider.

It was also declared that only passengers with a valid residence visa who have received both doses of a UAE-approved vaccine, would be allowed to travel to Dubai from India – this includes Sinopharm, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca (Covishield) and Pfizer-Biontech – not anymore!

A mutation of the Delta variant that’s seen as 50 percent more transmissible than other strains, Delta-plus has been found mostly in the state of Maharashtra, home to the financial capital Mumbai, as well as Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. The cases were found by sequencing 45,000 samples.

It is now present in 12 countries, including the US, UK, Japan, Russia and China.

India has reported over 30 million cases of coronavirus since the onset of the pandemic, which has claimed the lives of almost 400,000 people across the country.

We would request you to hold onto your travel bags & wait till the travel ban is taken off!

Stay home, Stay safe.
