Al Ain – A UNESCO World Heritage Oasis

Once a vital green oasis on the caravan route from UAE to Oman, Al Ain, meaning “The Spring,” stands as the emirate’s lush heritage garden city. It is one of the world’s oldest continually inhabited settlements and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

UNESCO World-Heritage Locations

Classified by UNESCO under cultural sites, the Al Ain world-heritage locations include the six Al Ain Oasis and the archaeological sites of Bidaa bint Saud, Jebel Hafit, and Hili. These ancient sites echo stories of prehistoric culture and human occupation since the Neolithic period, inviting you to step into the past.

Bidaa Bint Saud

Situated 25 kilometers north of Al Ain, Bidaa Bint Saud is a treasure trove for archaeological enthusiasts. The ancient caravan site features a rare Iron Age building, irrigation systems, and 5,000-year-old Bronze Age tombs. Gharn bint Saud, a 40-meter-tall rock, dominates the area, with ancient stone tombs at the top.

Hili Archaeological Park

The Hili Archaeological Site provides evidence of the earliest known agricultural village in the UAE, dating back to 3000 BCE. The site includes Bronze Age and Iron Age villages, burial grounds, and agricultural infrastructure, offering a glimpse into ancient civilizations.

Jebel Hafit Tombs

The 5,000-year-old Jebel Hafit tombs mark the start of the Bronze Age in the UAE. These single-chamber tombs contain evidence of maritime trade across the Arabian Gulf. Excavations in 1959 revealed ceramic vessels and copper artifacts.
