Why You Won’t See This Marine Delicacy On The Menu Of This Popular Delivery App Anymore

Under the agreement, Deliveroo commits to take out shark fin and any related shark products out of its physical and digital menus as well as refrain from serving it as special request on a case-to-case basis.

If you’re fond of eating shark fins, we have bad news for you.

Deliveroo – the UK-based food delivery app and with presence here in the UAE – announced the removal of all shark fin dishes from its platform.

This is after the company has signed to the ‘No Shark Fin’ pledge by the World Wide Fund (WWF).

Under the agreement, Deliveroo commits to take out shark fin and any related shark products out of its physical and digital menus as well as refrain from serving it as special request on a case-to-case basis.

Considering the rapid decline in shark population over the recent years, with the WWE putting the number at over 70 million sharks being killed every year, we say that this is indeed a bold and commendable move.

“This commitment by Deliveroo is crucial to saving sharks and the ecosystems that depend on them. As sustainable options are barely available for sharks, crashing consumer demand is essential,” said Dr. Andy Cornish, Leader of the Sharks Restoring the Balance initiative at WWF.

“Deliveroo’s new commitment covers some of the largest global shark fin markets, and we encourage other F&B establishments to follow suit.”
