Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi launches ‘Battle of the Arts’, a collaborative competition for everyone in the capital to participate.
The world can never have too much artistic expression. Abu Dhabi has a nascent but rapidly growing arts scene with community art collectives, poets, musicians and so much more.
In lieu of encouraging this creative splurge, The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi has announced a new nationwide arts competition, ‘Battle of the Arts’. The competition is an opportunity for artists to flex their artistic skills and generate some in-genuine work in the limelight. The initiative is in collaboration with the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and Aldar Academies, as well as DCT Abu Dhabi’s cultural sites Qasr Al Hosn, Cultural Foundation, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Manarat Al Saadiyat and Berklee Abu Dhabi. In short, all the capital’s stalwarts in the arts scene have come together to create a platform to empower young and adult creative expression.
You don’t have to have a portfolio or be a ‘skilled’ artist to enter the competition. All you need is an idea you’d like to showcase to enter the competition. It is open to children, teens and young adults and composes of ten online competitions: Theatre and Voice by Berklee Abu Dhabi; Visual Arts by Louvre Abu Dhabi; a Multi-Disciplinary category by Qasr Al Hosn; Music and Visual Arts by Aldar Academies; Photography by Manarat Al Saadiyat’s Photography Studio; Visual Arts by Manarat Al Saadiyat’s Art Studio; Spotlight on Talent by ADEK; and Arabic Calligraphy by Cultural Foundation’s Bait al Khatt.
Winners from each round will be selected by a jury panel of experts from all the involved partners to qualify for the final ‘People’s Choice Competition.’ The community will then be called upon to cast their votes for the masterpiece they feel deserves to win. Nonetheless, winners through the competition will have the chance to exhibit their work in a student showcase online for the public to browse through.
You can register for The Battle of the Arts competition now. The final deadline for submissions is 24th August with the winners being announced on 03rd September. Is there a painting or art project that you’ve built to every detail in your head but not seen the light of day? Well it’s now or never, so give it your best shot!
