Masdar City Clinches World Record

Masdar City bags World Record

Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s sustainable urban community has bagged the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest mosaic made from recycled materials.

The winning mosaic measures 1,015 sq.mt., which is around the size of two basketball courts.

Assembling the montage took one month and is made up of almost 90,500 recycled items including plastic bottles, cardboard and cans.

Masdar City recognised for sustainable events.

The mosaic of course would not be possible without the help of residents, Masdar City employees, tenants and school children from other parts of Abu Dhabi.

As for its message, the mosaic aims to encourage residents and tourists to be more aware of their responsibility to the environment starting with the concepts of reducing, reusing and recycling waste.

The vibrant montage cleverly traces the evolution of the UAE and even features distinct landmarks from the seven emirates.

“This wonderful mosaic makes the sustainability debate more tangible and accessible through the universal medium of art, and demonstrates the commitment of the people of the UAE to protecting the environment,” said Yousef Baselaib, executive director, sustainable real estate at Masdar.

Sustainability requires everyone to play their part and engaging the local community is an essential element of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.”

The mosaic is now on display at Masdar City and can be seen from the observation from the city’s observation deck.
